Interested in comic books? This course will examine the medium of comics and graphic narrative within the context of Jewish culture of the last century. It will focus on the historical and aesthetic development of comics as a cultural form in which Jewish writers and artists have figured prominently.

Students in Introduction to Native American Literature learn about the relationship between history and literature of Native Americans through a variety of writing including works by Leslie Marmon Silko, Louise Erdrich, and Sherman Alexie.

This course provides a broad overview of American concepts of literacy, social movements, and the literary intervention of the Native peoples of North America. Students taking Introduction to Native American Literature will have their knowledge of the histories and cultures of North America tremendously strengthened. Professor Laura Padilla teaches this course where the relationship between history and literature, the intersections of reading and orality, and how native peoples produce representations of their varied nations and selves are studies. A plethora of Native American literature will be studied including but not limited to: Samson Occam, Vine Deloria, Leslie Marmon Silko, Louise Erdrich, and Sherman Alexie.
